Kavin Bharti is Dreaming Big with Hike Messenger29 July, 2017
Kavin Bharti is the founder & CEO of Hike Messenger. Did you know he is the son of Sunil Mittal, the founder and chairman of Bharti Airtel. Hike messenger has more than 100 million users and over one billion messages are sent on Hike everyday. Hike has tasted some success, but it way behind the other messaging apps like WhatsApp , Viber, Line and WeChat etc. WhatsApp has over 1 billion daily active users, which is 100 times the Hike's user base.
Hike received initial funding of $21 million from Bharti-SoftBank and $65 million from Tiger Global. Some other investors like Adam D'Angelo, Ruchi Sanghvi and Matt Mullenweg also invested in Hike. Hike received a decent amount of capital in the very beginning, not many startups get such initial investments. Kavin Bharti created a good product, probably, the app was much like WhatsApp. Basic features were same as WhatsApp but there were some additional features too that WhatsApp lacks. In a nutshell, Hike has really good features, but it needs to do a lot more to compete with giants like WhatsApp, Line, WeChat and Viber etc.
Currently, Hike is valued at a staggering $1.4 billion. Recently, Chinese companies likes Tencent and Foxconn have invested in Hike. Hike is yet to monetize its huge user base, they haven't made anything from hike. Kavin Bharti plans to monetize in 2019 after having a comfortable critical mass on the product.
