WhatsApp Ends Support for Old Blackberry, iPhone and Nokia Symbian OS Devices27 July, 2017
WhatsApp has ended support for Blackberry OS, Blackberry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia S60 OS on June 30, 2017. However, a notification became popping up in 2016, notifying that WhatsApp would be stopped on older devices after 30 June 2016, but the deadline was later extended to 30 December, 2016. And finally, the deadline was extended to 30 June, 2017.
In a statement WhatsApp said :
"We will soon be ending support for cetain devces. on June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms: Blackberry OS and Blackberry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60."
The major reason behind stopping support to older devices is the lack of flexibility to add new features on old devices.
"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our stoy they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future."
With this announcement, WhatsApp has stopped working on the mentioned devices. Now, WhatsApp is no longer available on classic devices like Nokia 5533, a messaage pops up on Nokia 5533, saying "Unfortunately, WhatsApp no longer supports this phone. Please switch to a supported phone."
So, if you still want to use WhatsApp, you'll have to buy a new smartphone, make sure you buy a smartphone with latest OS. WhatsApp doesn't support older OS like Android 2.3.3, Windows Phone 7 and iOS 6.
